Music Ministry Guidelines

The purpose of the music ministry of Faith Independent Baptist Church is primarily to glorify and worship God (Psalm 100: 1-2; 66: 1-2). Secondary purposes include the edification and encouragement of believers (Colossians 3:16; Ephesians 5: 18-19). These purposes are accomplished through congregational singing and special music selections that uplift the saints; that compliment the pulpit ministry of the pastor; and that prepare the congregation to receive God’s Word.

In order to achieve these goals, the participants in the music ministry shall observe the following guidelines:

       I.      All music should be free from worldly influence (e.g. jazz, pop, and rock) in style, performance methods, and association. (Romans 12: 1-2; James 4:4; 1 John 2:15; Philippians 4:8)

II.      All texts should be scriptural in doctrine and application and God-centered or patriotic in theme.

III.      Music ministry participants shall be regularly attending, active members of Faith Independent Baptist Church or special guests that are active in another church of similar faith and practice.

IV.      Out of respect for the church of God and the message of the Word, on regular Sunday services, participants shall dress appropriately for the platform of the church. Women shall wear modest dresses or skirts at least covering the knee when seated. Men should wear dress clothes, including a coat and tie if available. On occasions such as the Wednesday church service, church picnics, and Vacation Bible School a more casual dress standard may be acceptable but must reflect standards of modesty and appropriateness.

     V.      It is preferred that soloists use live accompaniment. This will facilitate additional participation in the music ministry (by the accompanists) and allows for modifications of arrangements to fit the church guidelines regarding style. In cases where live accompaniment is not practical, for example, an orchestral accompaniment when one is not available, recorded music can be allowed. Recorded music is not to be used to bring unacceptable music styles, etc. into the music ministry.

VI.      In order to facilitate prayer and preparation of each selection, music will be scheduled two weeks ahead of time. Each piece will be reviewed the Music Coordinator (appointed by the Pastor) one week before scheduled to ensure preparation. These regular scheduling procedures shall not hinder the Pastor from scheduling special music.
